Wired Different: The Hidden Patterns of Trauma and How to Heal Them

This book is for the millions who have not yet recognized their own hidden trauma, the kind shaped by experiences they dismiss as “not that bad” or “others had it worse.”

It’s for people who function well on the outside, yet privately feel inconsistent, reactive, or exhausted by their own lives.

Wired Different closes the gap between understanding trauma conceptually and recognizing how it is actually operating inside one’s own mind, body, and relationships.

The Trauma Adaptation Profile™

The Trauma Adaptation Profile™ (TAP-Profile) is a clinician-developed, research-informed tool that identifies patterns of thinking, feeling, and behavior that often develop in response to complex trauma.

Many experiences that are labeled as ‘symptoms’ are signatures, adaptations the nervous system developed for safety. The TAP-Profile model helps trace these patterns with compassion.

There are two levels of the TAP-Profile.

In the first level are the TAP Self-Reflection Quiz, TAP-Beliefs Tree, and TAP-Pathways™. These tools are for educational use and personal insight. They offer a starting point for recognizing how trauma adaptations appear in everyday life. You receive immediate feedback.

The second level includes the Trauma Adaptation Profiles™ (TAP-LF and TAP-SF). These assessment instruments are used to identify and work with specific trauma adaptation patterns. You are welcome to take this profile - results will be sent to the therapist you name on the form. These two measures are currently undergoing validation studies.

The TAP-Profile™ is a proprietary framework developed by Janet E. Lapp, PhD, and will be presented in the forthcoming book Wired Different (2027).

These tools are intended to support education, self-awareness, and therapeutic exploration. They’re not diagnostic instruments and are not a substitute for a comprehensive psychological evaluation.
